For many years there has been a shortage of physics teachers in schools in England. For the sixth consecutive year, the IOP is awarding scholarships which provide financial and professional support for outstanding individuals entering physics teacher training.

Each of the 150 scholarships available include £30,000 tax-free funding, free IOP membership, CPD opportunities and invitations to networking events.

The IOP is looking for people with impressive subject knowledge, a commitment to education and the determination to be an inspirational teacher. To be eligible, applicants need to have a degree in physics, engineering or a related subject and have secured a training place on a non-salaried course starting in September 2017.

Does your school provide physics initial teacher training?

If so, please encourage your 2017/18 physics trainees to apply online at iop.org/scholarships.

The scholarship will give your trainee additional support – they will be able to draw on the scholarship community for advice, physics discussion and tips for teaching different topics. Their scholarship will also provide them with opportunities to develop their skills through events designed to build upon their training.
