Puzzled by the motor effect or by Fleming’s left hand rule? Wanting to know how to make a loudspeaker or to explain how a transformer works? This workshop is designed for non-physicists preparing to teach electromagnetism at GCSE and for technicians supporting this teaching.

This is a hands on workshop with two aims. Firstly to develop a solid understanding of the concepts taught in the electromagnetism topic. Then to identify key areas of difficulty for students and to share strategies for helping them to succeed in the classroom in ways that are engaging and accessible.

Topics covered will include permanent and induced magnets, magnetic fields, the magnetic effect of current, Fleming’s Left Hand Rule, electric motors, loudspeakers, generators, microphones and transformers. This workshop is suited to teachers, trainees and technicians.

There will be a free bag of IOP resources for each delegate.
