Now that we’ve all had the opportunity to get one set of students through the new GCSE, it’s worth re-grouping to look at how we’ve been teaching energy and what we can do to improve to support our students’ understanding.
This workshop will look again at the rational behind the new model, the terminology, and how to prepare students for describe/explain questions about energy shifts. It will also look at teaching approaches regarding the calculations involved in the energy topic. There will be lots of opportunities to try out experiments and variations in the required practicals to take back to your classrooms.
In addition we will focus some time on how we can adopt a consistent approach across all three Sciences so that students (and staff) feel adequately equipped for any question with the term ‘energy’ from KS3 upwards.
