In this online session, our team of Gender Balance Coaches will introduce the Improving Gender Balance (IGB) Wales project.
Girls made up fewer than a quarter (23%) of all physics A level students across Wales in the 2018-19 school year and the programme, which is funded by the Welsh Government, seeks to address this by identifying and addressing how gender stereotypes manifest in education and impact on subject choices. The project is about working hand-in-hand with your school to foster an environment where all young people are free and confident to make the choices right for them – that are the best possible fit for their aptitudes, capabilities, and passions, whether Physics or another subject. IGB Wales is now in its second year of the programme, and is looking to recruit three secondary schools and its feeder primaries to work with.
The coaches use feedback from staff and pupils, examine school policies, and study each school’s environment to analyse its gender balance profile. Bespoke interventions are then agreed with and held at the schools (or remotely). They can include elements such as inclusive-teaching workshops, unconscious bias CPD, careers based advice for classrooms and science based content.
The coaches will present findings from the pilot year of the project, as well as a short selection of taster CPD sessions that your school might expect to receive.
Joining instructions will be emailed to you before the webinar. For further information on the project, or if you are interested in attending a webinar but cannot make this session, please contact email@example.com
