Multimeters are cracking pieces of kit, they are generally cheap and very versatile, but they do look complicated and can easily put teachers, technicians and students off using them. This session will show you how to use the basic functionality of a simple multimeter (the sort that you can buy for around £10), what the different settings on the dial are for, how to use the three sockets and how to interpret the digital readout. I’ll also show you a few ways of using them in familiar practicals and a couple of sneaky tricks to make your lives easier.
Please note that we will deal with measuring current, potential difference and resistance; we will not be looking at maintenance of multimeters.
