In this session, we will show how developing the stores and pathways model helps students to calculate changes in energy stores, as well as link these changes to calculations of power and efficiency. Limitations of the model are discussed as well as the common misconceptions about heating and temperature. We will reflect on the new IOP DOMAINS energy videos available here -particularly Building energy calculations from the ground up for 11-16 year olds, Introducing energy calculations and Energy calculations in action for 14-16 year olds. We would encourage you to watch some of these videos before the session.
Colleagues may wish to indicate specific issues that they would like to discuss using the ‘additional requirements’ box.
Who is this event suitable for?
This event is for all those teaching physics. This event will cover key areas within the secondary physics curriculum and be based on the new IOP DOMAINS energy videos -particularly Building energy calculations from the ground up for 11-16 year olds, Introducing energy calculations and Energy calculations in action for 14-16 year olds. Experienced IOP coaches will host the session and will be there to expand on the content, answer your questions and provide support.
This is a regional event. We welcome colleagues from other regions, but priority will be given to colleagues from this region. Please understand that if you are from another region that approval may not be given to your booking if there are insufficient spaces available.
