Ever since Newton developed his theory of gravitation, we have had the ability to predict the movement of objects in space. From stars and planets through to satellites and rockets we can use Newton’s work to predict movement through space with great precision. This session will look at the teaching of gravitational fields at post-16 level. This topic is one of the more theoretical and mathematical topics on the specifications and one that students often struggle with. The session will offer hints, tips and will explore ways to explain some of the more difficult concepts within field theory like gravitational potential and orbital motion.

We will also reflect on the newly released DOMAINS CPD videos on Space and would encourage you to watch some of them if you can, before the session. Colleagues may wish to indicate specific issues that they would like to discuss using the “additional requirements” box when booking to attend. Please feel free to bring along any questions you have.

Who is this event suitable for?
This event is for all those teaching KS5, or age range 16+, physics and will cover key areas within the secondary and post-16 physics curriculum. The session will be based on the new DOMAINS CPD videos on Space.

Experienced IOP coach David Farley from the North West regional teams will host the session and will be there to expand on the content, answer your questions and provide support.
