This session is part of the local ‘Upskill your Physics’ series of CPD sessions aimed at non-specialist teachers, which aims to improve their confidence when teaching the maths skills essential for success at GCSE Physics. Although this is flagged as a local session, the Milton Keynes and Bedford ‘Upskillers’ have been joined by teachers from all over the country over the last few weeks, and all teachers and trainee teachers of Physics are welcome to join us.
Dr Mark Whalley, IOP Education Manager for England, will continue to improve the confidence of ‘Upskillers’ with the Power of Per.
Do equations fill your students with dread? Do you feel less happy when teaching equations in physics? Do you want to help colleagues develop their confidence in using and teaching equations? Then this CPD session could be just what you’re after. Rather than concentrating on algebra, we will look at how language can be effectively used to understand quantitative relationships and bypass equations (at least to start with!). This technique helps develop understanding and improve confidence, and it all starts with getting to grips with “per”.
