This event, part of the IOP Domains CPD series of events, will provide advice on teaching the basics of electric circuits. It will look at underlying principles as well as practical pedagogical techniques to support learning in this conceptually difficult topic. As this session is aimed at BGE content, all teachers of science are welcome, regardless of specialism.

Ahead of the event it will be advantageous for all participants to have watched the IOP DOMAINS Electricity CPD videos on IOP Spark at https://spark.iop.org/electricity-cpd-videos. The videos most relevant to this session are:

  • Using models to explain simple circuits;
  • Exploring circuits practically; and
  • What is voltage – just the section on models, which starts at 9:28

During the event there will be opportunities to ask questions about issues raised in the videos as well as to and raise any concerns you might have about teaching electric circuits. Please note that Static Electricity is not intended to be covered in this session, but attendees are most welcome to ask any questions on this in the Q&A at the end.

Registration for the event will close at lunchtime on the day of the event. Log-in details will be emailed to registered delegates on the day of the event. Please check junk mail folders if you have not received log-in details before the event. Contact [email protected] if you have a problem.
