IOP Scotland CLPL: Language in Science – an introduction

This is the first in a series of events exploring the use if language in physics and science. Good communication is at the core of teaching and the use of language is absolutely central to this. Physics uses everyday words is specific ways and also has its own vocabulary. Experienced IOP Coaches will explore problem areas and draw on their experience to suggest strategies to improve understanding and the use of language by pupils. There will be a number of other related sessions every few weeks throughout the session. These will include sessions on ‘The Power of Per’, ‘The Language of Maths in Science’, and that slightly strange language we have dubbed ‘SQA Speak’, how can you make sure your pupils use language to maximise their marks in SQA assessments.
