Join us for a full day of Physics teacher CPD workshops provided by Institute of Physics coaches  – whether you’re a physics specialist or not. All teachers of physics, NQTs, technicians and trainees are welcome.

There is no charge to attend – the conference is very generously hosted by Charterhouse School, in Godalming, Surrey and offers the opportunity to take part in a number of different workshops over the day.

Programme for the Day

09.15 – 09.55 Registration and welcome, refreshments and exhibitor stands

10.00 – 11.15 Session One – Workshop choices: Electricity and Transmission; GCSE Physics Required Practicals and how these skills are assessed in exams; Using Isaacphysics.org in your GCSE and A level Teaching; Hooked on Springs; Coaching physics teachers; Ultrasound transmitters and receivers make & take; Cloud Chambers make & take.

11.20 – 11.45 Refreshment break and exhibitor stands

11.50 – 12.50 Keynote Presentation: Small Science – Big Future…

12.50 – 13.40 Lunch and exhibitor stands

13.45 – 15.00 Session Two – Workshop choices: Shocked and Stunned – static electricity; GCSE Physics Required Practicals and how these skills are assessed in exams KS4; Gender Balance and Classroom Practice; Mystery boxes – Analogues, observations and problem solving; Using smartphones in practical physics lessons; Transverse & Longitudinal Waves; Teaching electricity; new challenges for students from KS3 (or even younger) to A-level.

15.10 – 16.25 Session Three – Workshop choices: Shocked and Stunned –static electricity; Hooked on Springs; Teaching electricity; new challenges for students from KS3 (or younger) to A-level; Mystery boxes – Analogues, observations and problem solving; Understanding and implementing Science capital in your practice; Ultrasound Transmitters and receivers make & take; Gender Balance and Classroom Practice.

16.25 – 16.30 Evaluation forms, IOP Goody bags and depart

  • Explore novel resources for teaching and supporting physics in the classroom
  • Experience curriculum-focused activities that raise motivation and attainment
  • Expand your understanding of some of the latest progress in physics
  • Exchange ideas and best practice with colleagues
