This popular CPD day features a mix of practical workshops, inspiring talks and congenial networking. All teachers of physics, technicians and trainees are welcome. Sessions will include ideas for those new to physics teaching as well as the more experienced, with stimulating material for use in your labs and classrooms with ages 11 upwards. Refreshments and lunch provided.

09:45 – 10:35 Keynote Presentation: Tones, Tines and Tings – ideas and demonstrations to enrich the teaching of sound – David Cotton
10:35 – 11:00 Refreshment break and exhibitor stands
11:00 – 12:10 Session One – workshop choices: Electromagnetic Spear make’n’take; Transverse & Longitudinal Waves; Using Smartphones in Practical Physics Lessons; “What good is that?” – an LDR circuit make’n’take; Teaching Electromagnetism at KS3 and 4.
12:10 – 13:10 Lunch and exhibitor stands
13:10 – 14:20 Session Two – workshop choices: Electromagnetic Spear make’n’take; Balancing Better (IGB); Mystery Boxes; “What good is that?” – an LDR circuit make’n’take; Exo-climatology.
14:25 – 15:35 Session Three – workshop choices: Often Found at the Repairs Bench; Transverse & Longitudinal Waves; Physics in the Workplace; How does and Electrical Circuit work?; Using Online Video Resources.
15:35 – 15:45 Evaluation, goody bags and depart

- Experience curriculum-focused activities that raise motivation and attainment
- Expand your understanding of some of the latest progress in physics
- Exchange ideas and best practice with colleagues
Workshops are run by experienced IOP Physics Coaches, based at IOP Lead Schools that are supporting IOP Partner Schools with termly in-school support, and by experienced technicians and professionals working in physics. There will be lots of useful activities and resources for your teaching back in school and the day is open to everyone!
Ivybridge is located between Exeter & Plymouth with views up to Dartmoor (Western Beacon) and across the South Devon countryside. There’s quick access from the A38 dual carriageway and plenty of free on-site parking. Also a mainline train station within comfortable walking distance (check the available train times carefully)
