Blow the cobwebs away and conjure up some fresh ideas in an invigorating morning of football physics and space science careers for STEM teachers.

The Physics of Football: This session will use resources from the IOP’s Thinking on your feet: the physics of football. This was a joint collaboration with Arsenal FC and uses the context of football to engage students with different concepts in physics and possibly even improve their football. Each activity involves students using physics to investigate a particular aspect of football, including: How can you kick and throw a ball further? What makes a good pass? How can you control a ball effectively? How can you spin and bend a ball? Forceful tackling and Using your body for balance and stability. The resources are suitable for students across the age and capability range.

Join Science Made Simple to find out more about the EU Horizon 2020 project Our Space Our Future. Secondary schools in Wales have taken part in throughout the lockdown, learning about the variety of careers offered in the space industry at all entry levels, and how they help to solve problems here on Earth. The project – operating in ten schools in Wales along with Italy, Denmark, Portugal and England has provided multiple interventions for year 8 & 9 students and used some experimental techniques to raise aspirations, remove unconscious bias and highlight opportunities in the space sector. Lunch and refreshments will be provided free of charge.
