“The dark sides of our Universe: dark energy, dark matter and dust-enshrouded galaxies”: Dr Julie Wardlow
In this webinar we will explore the “dark” sectors of the Universe, including examining how astronomers established the existence of dark matter and dark energy despite them emitting no light for telescopes to detect. We will discuss how these mysterious components have impacted the growth of galaxies since the Big Bang, and reveal how new telescopes exploit the whole electromagnetic spectrum to “see” through thick clouds of dust, which previously prevented us from investigating some of the most important phases of galaxy growth.
This event is organised so teachers can improve their understanding and knowledge of Astrophysics research to enable them to promote physics ideas and research in the classroom. “Homework questions” will also be prepared from this session
