The IOP Blog has recently posted a really good article about the role of technicians. If you want to strengthen your relationship with your technicians and make the most of their valuable work and experience you should read the post – Technicians: your friends in the classroom.
If the IoP is really interested in promoting the role of technicians they could revisit their fee structure for membership. Technicians are paid substantially less than NQTs., yet the fees charged do not reflect this. The ASE offers a substantial discount to Technicians to encourage membership.
I don’t have a degree in anything, so can only join as an associate, but the fee is only slightly less than that for a full member, and two and a half times the fee for ASE Technician membership.
